Shimeji Buddy started in 2021 as a weekend project: two artists who missed the original desktop Shimeji program wanted the same little characters inside the browser, where they actually spend their day. Today the extension ships with dozens of characters across seven categories and new buddies are added every month based on requests from the community.

What We Believe
- Fun should be light. A buddy must never slow your browser or get in the way of a page. Every sprite is optimised and buddies pause on background tabs.
- Privacy is not optional. The extension does not collect browsing data, does not need an account and never sends page content anywhere.
- Artists get credit. Every character page names the artist who drew it and links to their portfolio. Rights holders can reach us through the DMCA page.
